Surf @ Bondi Beach, and leave

The day of departure, back to that cold little frog country, sob... By the way, it promises to be 36 C today.

First, I put the suitcases away, which wasn't possible in the same apartment, but three blocks away. That meant lugging 100kg of stuff around the streets. But after that, I'm free to do something today. The flight isn't until 10 p.m.

In the meantime, Carmen was allowed to transport all the remaining food and refrigerator items home.

Afterward, we met up again at Bondi Beach, an hour's bus ride away. We had arranged to meet there at noon for a surfing lesson for Arthur and Carmen. In the bottom photo, they're walking toward the surfing spot on the beach.

Oh yes, Bondi is not an English but an Aboriginal name, you pronounce it bond-ai, not bon-di.

The lesson was almost canceled due to bad weather. By that, they don't mean rain, wind, or hail (you'll get wet anyway), but too little wind.

When we arrived there were indeed almost no high waves, but enough practice material for the beginner.

Put on your wetsuit (the water isn't warm here), then follow with a safety briefing and instructions on how to stand upright on a surfboard.

And action! (Videos don't always play properly; we're not Google/YouTube here, but we run on a home server.)

Shot a few last pictures of this amazing beach.

Pick up your suitcases and eat at the Thai restaurant at the pick-up point, better and cheaper than at the airport.

Off to the airport, and goodbye to Carmen. See you later! Probably January, travel plans aren't clear yet, maybe New Zealand? The bag with leftover cookies, chips, etc. went over Carmen's shoulder, and off she went!

She had arranged to meet her friends that evening to plan a trip to Tasmania…

And we got a little pat on the back from Carmen for the expensive train ride to the airport (tourist trap), hehe.
