It's over. Now...plain' flying back. 15 + 7 hours of flying, and 3 hours of transfer. The flight was uneventful, as it should be. When you experience exciting things with airplanes, it's usually not good. Sitting around for a whole day, watching a movie, sleeping while sitting, losing track of time, and getting increasingly hungover. It's all part of it if you want to see the other side of the planet.

A few more pictures from Doha:

From Schiphol, another 2.5-hour train ride back, and then we're finally home. 15 degrees, rain.

And so concludes this wonderful journey to far-off Australia. A beautiful country, far more diverse, greener, and more relaxing than we could have imagined. Stunning coastlines, friendly people, tropical plants, and unique wildlife.

This holiday was also a trip like we often do. We hadn't booked anything except for the plane. You never know where you'll be sleeping in two days. It always went well, although it was a bit more exciting during the midterm break and before Sydney, as many accommodations were already full. Outside of that time, it was usually easier, and we ended up in some great places.

The order of north first, south later was also a good one considering the climate. We were in Cairns in early spring, with perfect temperatures.

A month later, it will be tropically hot and humid. And by the end, temperatures in Sydney were much more pleasant than a month earlier. Today, it was supposed to reach 38°C in Sydney, a spring peak, the first October in over 100 years. Summer has yet to begin, Carmen will still be warm, but you get used to that too.

Highlights:

  • See Carmen again
  • Snorkeling on the Reef
  • Rainforest
  • Magnetic Island
  • Whitehaven
  • Sydney Opera House
  • Sydney university tour
  • Surfing at Bondi Beach

I drove about 3,000 km by car, took various tours and boat trips, and saw a good portion of Australia's east coast. There's so much more to see, perhaps another time, or somewhere else!
